"The Goonies" are our top Division 2 squad this season, winning a thrilling championship game in penalties!
In all it was an incredible underdog effort from this group, fighting their way to the top of the podium despite an ugly start. That start, which saw them drop consecutive games to start the season, meant it was an uphill battle for the rest of the season. However, this scrappy group fought hard and finished the season with four wins and two draws to make the playoffs.
They entered as the #4 seed, again facing an uphill battle. In their first game they took on the top ranked "Deez Nuts" and knocked out the favorite with a two-goal 3-1 win. In the championship game they took on "Libertad FC", a great matchup between two evenly matched squads.
Eventually the game went to penalties, where "The Goonies" were able to take home the win thanks to netting all three of their shots while their opponent missed all three of theirs. A thrilling end to a great season, and a well-earned one as well for this battle-tested team. Congratulations to "The Goonies" on a fantastic run!
