If you weren't at our Wednesday Kickball finals you missed out on excellent kickball. The Championship game placed defending Champs Oooh Kill Em against Faulty Rubbers who where champs two seasons ago. Faulty Rubbers, lead by Eddie Merlo, stepped on to the field as the number one seed, only losing once during regular season play. But that didn't stop 8th seeded Prestige World Wide from nearly upsetting them. In the end Faulty Rubbers escaped the first round with a score of 1-0. The near miss must have woke them up because they turned it on in the second round defeating 4th seed Swift Kick in the Grass 7-3.
Meanwhile 3rd seed Oooh Kill Em had a similar night. The started the night by easily defeating Pitches be Crazy 7-2. But 2nd seed Smack My Kick Up was not going to make it easy for them. Their match during the regular season ended in a 2-2 tie and similarly after 6 innings their Semi-final game was tied at 4-4. In the 8th inning Smack My Kick Up scored one and it looked like it was all over for Oooh Kill Em. But Oooh Kill them answered right back with a 2 runs in the bottom of the 8th earning their spot in the Championship game.
Due to the extra innings in the Semi-finals and knowing that the city hits the light switch at 11pm there were concerns that the Finals would be cut short. Both teams played with a sense of urgency. Oooh Kill Em struck first in scoring a run the second inning. After that their iron defense took over. Anchored by First Baseman Aubree Haymore and her stellar play at that position which earned her the distinction of Player of the Game, Oooh Kill Em was able to defend their Kickball title with a final score of 1-0. Congratulations to Oooh Kill Em, and all teams that participated in the late Summer season of Xoso Kickball.
