Our Late Spring 2014 Wednesday ultimate league came to an exciting conclusion last night as the top three teams entered the final week of play with a realistic shot at bringing home the title. Just as expected, it was a photo finish.
Huck Huck Deuce came into play with the best record in the league, and therefore held their destiny in their own hands. Only needing a win to cement their place as our season champions. However, it wasn't going to be an easy road, as across the field of dreams stood a poised and ready Whiskey Disc Team with championship aspirations of their own. Whiskey Disc took it to Huck Huck Deuce early and often in the game, jumping out to a sizable lead and never looking back. With the win, Whiskey Disc leapfrogged Huck Huck Deuce in the standings and it had now become a two horse race between Whiskey Disc and The Frisadores who were playing simultaneously on the next field.
The Frisadores knew that if Huck Huck Deuce had fallen to Whiskey Disc that they would be tied in the standings, and would need a better point differential than Whiskey Disc in order to claim the championship, and they played accordingly. Swarming their opponents from the outset, The Frisadores played a focused and determined game and won by a final of 12-2.
With all eyes on the standings, it was The Frisadores who edged out Whiskey Disc in one of the closest finishes in recent Xoso history. Both teams finished with a record of 6-1-1. However The Frisadores had a +35 point differential during the season, while Whiskey Disc had a +31 differential.
