Our Spring 2014 Flag Football Season playoffs were held last night, and although 3 teams entered the night with a realistic shot at winning the championship, in the end it was the Chargecords.com Chargers that siezed the day and rolled to a decisive title clinching victory.
In the final regular season match Blue Balls and White Guilt were pitted against each other in a high stakes game as the winner earned a spot in the championship game. Although the teams entered the game with identical 5-2 records on the season it was White Guilt who came in with the confidence of defeating Blue Balls in their early season contest. Unfortunately for White Guilt, they were short one lady, so they had to play with 3 guys, and 1 woman. The Blue Balls led 19-0 late in the game before White Guilt scored with about 2 minutes left to cut the lead to 19-7. On the next series, Blue Balls quarterback, Joey "Football" Roberts threw an interception which White Guilt returned for a touchdown cutting the score to 19-14. With under 30 seconds left, the Blue Balls had to make positive yardage and try to run out the clock. A critical third down conversion was made by Lyndsey of Blue Balls, and with a time out called, Lyndsey scored on the final play of the game to cap it for Blue Balls, 25-14.
The Chargecords.com Chargers were awaiting the outcome. The Chargecords.com team were blitzed by the Blue Balls last week unexpectedly. Captain Rachel Skolnick of the Chargecords.com told me that they actually practiced after that defeat. Practice? Well, it worked. The Chargecords.com squad emptied the proverbial playbook with some innovative plays. Team Blue Balls' Kristofer Owens saw the difference. "Last week, we were beating them on the deep balls, but tonight, they took that away from us," explained Owens. The Chargecords.com lost their QB Josh Brannon last week to a broken finger, so between a rotation of Bryan Misquez and Jerad Friedline at quarterback, they were able to get the job done easily defeating the Blue Balls, 25-7.
