Our Late Spring 2014 Friday Cornhole season wrapped up last Friday as the reigning and three time defending champion Cornhorn Tossers were dethroned by The Unicornholes.
In the playoffs, six battle tested veteran teams came ready to put their best tosses to the test in a competition of skill and focus. In the opening round #4 seed Bag Em & Tag Em captured a quick 2-0 victory in their match with #5 Hole Patrol who were a touch off their game. In the second opening round match #6 Holy Moly pulled off one of the upsets of the night taking down potential championship contender #3 seed High Ethanol Mofongo in a 2-0 nail bitter.
The semi-final clash between #2 Unicornholes and Bag Em & Tag Em went The Unicornholes way in decisive fashion alerting the field that they meant business. In the second semi-final #1 seed Cornhorn Tossers proved too strong for the upstart Holy Moly winning two tight contests.
The championship featured a rematch of last seasons final battle between the two strongest teams our league has seen. The Cornhorn Tossers edged The Unicornholes 3-2 in an epic finale last season, but The Unicornholes had all season to prepare for another opportunity at the title, and they were ready.
This is where things got interesting, as the teams took center stage in the back bar of Alley Katz in a best of 5 matchup. The Big 3 J's of The Unicornholes (Jeff, Josh and Juan) took game 1 in typical Unicornholes fashion. The back to back to back to...champs were not going to go quietly and game 2 belonged to them. Tied 1-1 these titans of the cornhole field took to game 3, with the Unicornholes ultimately prevailing. With focus, vigor and ultimately teamwork these 3 fine gentleman took the court for game 4 and reigned supreme. They took a few celebratory shots and the lights dimmed on the Big 3 J's.
