"Toxic Megacolon" is our latest Thursday softball champion, winning in walk-off fashion in our championship game. The win caps off a 7-1-1 overall record.
Last night's matchup between "Toxic Megacolon" and "The Ballbarians" was an incredible one. So great, it took extra innings to decide the champion, and even then it wasn't an easy walk-off win.
In the bottom of the 1st "Toxic Megacolon" jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead. They'd add to that lead in the 3rd inning with a bases loaded walk, and eventually after 4 innings they were ahead 3-0.
In the top of the 5th "The Ballbarians" finally got on the board with 2 runs of their own, trying to fight their way back into the game late. However, "Toxic Megacolon" picked up another run in the bottom half of the inning, adding to their lead and making it a 4-2 ball game.
In the 6th the Ballbarians kept their offensive momentum. They wouldn't go without a fight, eventually tying it up at 4 and extending the game! In the bottom half of the inning "Toxic Megacolon" was unable to close things out, so it was off to extras!
In the top of the seventh inning"The Ballbarians" got one of their top hitters up, hitting a bomb to right field. He decided to push his luck and go for the home run, but was swiftly denied by an excellent relay and play at the plate that had him out by more than a few steps. After the game-saving defensive play, "Toxic Megacolon" had all the momentum.
In the bottom of the inning, with runners on base, "Toxic Megacolon" hit a ball into left-center field. It looked as though we'd have another play at the plate, but an error by the outfielders pretty much sealed their fate, and home came the run to crown "Toxic Megacolon" the Thursday night champions. Congratulations to them on a thrilling victory!
