Our Spring 2015 Dodgeball season wrapped up last night with an exciting bracket of single elimination playoff games lined up to determine who the top dog in the league is. The stakes were high as a $50 Blue Cue bar tab, a $100 Miller Lite tab and of course bragging rights were on the line.
In the opening round, the #3 seed ( o )( o ) and the #5 seed Dodgeaholics prevailed in their separate contests, each winning a close and competitive match by the score of 5-3.
The parity of the teams this season was in full display during our two semi-final clashes. Both matches finished tied 3-3 at the end of regulation play. However, in the playoffs only one team can move on, while the other is sent packing. In sudden death play #1 seed WTF??? survived a scare from the Dodgeaholics and moved on to the championship match while earning a well deserved rest. In our second semi-final, ( o ) ( o ) got the job done in sudden death play pulling the minor upset over #2 Bat Shit Crazy in a back and forth scrap.
In the championship game both teams were ready to go, and up for the challenge that lay ahead of them. Both teams came out throwing hard. Brian on WTF??? kept making catch after catch for his team, allowing them to jump out to the early lead. However he had a little trouble with Julia on (○)(○) dodging almost every ball that was thrown at her. WTF??? captured the second game as well, but (○)(○) wasn't going down without a fight. It came down to Sarah on WTF??? in the third game all alone, and she made a catch that appeared to turn around the fate for their team. With the score 2-1, WTF??? wouldn't let the momentum slip away. Roger on WTF??? was throwing accurate darts trying to get out every player on (○)(○), but he was tagged out while in mid air. WTF??? won the game and control of the match 3-1 with minutes remaining. (○)(○) tried their hardest to end the next game with a victory as quickly as possible hoping against hope that two quick games in their favor could force a sudden death playoff. However, Nathan on WTF??? made a strategic move to keep the balls as long as possible to slow the game and make the clock run out. WTF??? played hard and played smart and won 3-2.
Congratulations to WTF??? and to all of the teams that played in a great Dodgeball season.
