"Lucky Pitches" is our Monday Night Softball League champion following a couple of nail-biting wins in the playoffs. Entering the night they were the third seed, but that didn't mean they were a long-shot. Instead, our top four were all clustered together and they all had a shot to win.
The night started out with our fourth seed "Shane's Pickle" getting out to an early lead on the top seeded "Pitch Slap". Things started to get a bit dicey for the final inning when "Pitch Slap" tried to rally, but "Shane's Pickle" was able to stave off the comeback and pull off a 9-5 win.
In our second game of the night it was much of the same, this time with "Woo Girls" hanging onto a narrow lead going into the last inning. Unfortunately for them the "Lucky Pitches" were able to pull through in the clutch and win with a last inning walk-off double, giving them a 4-3 win and a spot in the final.
In our championship game "Shane's Pickle" started the game with a three-run inning, stealing the momentum early. However, the "Lucky Pitches" played great defense and slowly chipped away at the lead, grabbing a run here and there. In the bottom of the 5th they finally broke through and scored three runs to take the lead 5-3.
Later on "Shane's Pickle" would strike back with a run of their own but wouldn't be able to complete the comeback. Instead the "Lucky Pitches" showcased their great defense at the end of the game and were able to make the final out, leaving the potential game-tying run stranded on base to take the championship. It was a thrilling game, but one that unfortunately had to end.
Congratulations to "Lucky Pitches" on a fantastic night of softball! It took two one-run games to do it, but now they are the Monday Night Softball champions!
