Notes

First Place

Softball - Thursdays (Summer '16)

"The Gold-Fielders" are our Thursday Softball League champions following their two wins on championship night. The two wins also mean they went an undefeated 10-0 through the season, leaving the rest of their opponents to suffer in their wake.

In their first game of the night "The Gold-Fielders" took on "Hit It and Acquit It". As the #4 seed "Hit It and Acquit It" wasted no time and surprised their higher ranked opponent by striking early in the 1st inning with three runs. But, our champions wouldn't let them get too far ahead and quickly followed up with four runs of their own in the bottom of the inning to take the lead. The game stayed neck-and-neck until later in the fourth inning when "The Gold-Fielders" caught fire on offense, adding seven runs. With that they pulled away and put the game away for good with the final score of 13-6.

In our second "Green Machine" picked up four early runs on the "Out of Towners" but gave up three in the bottom of the 1st, making it 4-3 after just an inning. Unfortunately that would be as close as the "Out of Towners" got as a combination playing with just nine players and some struggles on the mound led to a ton of walks and runs for their opponent. "Green Machine" did well to take full advantage of this and went on to with the game in a blowout.

Things were much closer in our championship than they were in our previous two games. It didn't look that way at first though as "The Gold-Fielders" held a 10-3, seven-run lead late in the bottom of the sixth inning. "Green Machine" was able to pull five runs together to make it a 10-8 game, but with two outs and a runner on second, were unable to find a few last hits to tie it. Instead, "The Gold-Fielders" were able to pick up the third and final out the end the game, sealing their title by the score of 10-8.

Congratulations to "The Gold-Fielders" on a perfect season, and we hope to see them back in our league soon!
