Friday night Cornhole ended in a Final Board Battle between the first place team, Bag Em & Tag Em, and the second place team, Cornhorn Tossers. Both teams had won the Semifinals with a 3-0 and 3-1 record, respectively. What better way to kickoff Finals than with a Ro-Sham-Bo decider on who goes first? Deb Castaneda (Cornhorn) won first throw against Dan Armstrong (Bag Em), throwing towards her teammate Ben Hunter. The first game remained close, as Justin Morris and Dan made Cornholes with Deb and Ben battling back. As Deb and Ben closed in with some singles on the board, Cornhorn Tossers took the first win.
The second game had Luis Tejada and Deb facing off against Johnny Candelaria and Justin. Johnny scored the first single point of the game, but Luis and Deb quickly sank bag after bag in the remaining rounds. The first place team, Bag Em, cancelled a lot of the Cornhole points -- but that didn't stop multiple rounds of Luis scoring 6 for the team, then Deb with 6, then Luis with 3 -- coming down to the last of Debra scoring 6 points for Cornhorn, and Johnny taking 3 points for Bag Em in the same epic round. Cornhorn leads 2-0!
Deb and Luis kept the same momentum going into the 3rd match, with Dan and Justin ready to fight back. Luis was the first to get the point for the 3rd match; the competing teams all watched in awe as Cornholes and Board points were cancelled except for one wayward bag each round...
Deb took 3 for the Cornhorn Tossers in second throws, with Luis sinking two bags on the 3rd round. Dan and Justin wouldn't give up, though -- they cancelled Cornholes and board points ferociously all season, but couldn't stop the wave of Cornholes coming from Deb and Luis's match. Maybe Deb, knowing that she would be taking a break for the next season, wanted to leave the league in a Blaze of Glory with Luis -- whatever it was, Cornhorn Tossers took all three games 3-0 and celebrated their winnings by sharing drinks with the teammates from Bag Em & Tag Em (appropriately challenging each other to a lighthearted scrimmage after much celebration). Congratulations, Cornhorn Tossers -- we'll see both teams next season!
